I didn't like Sense so switched to GPE shortly after getting the M8 almost 18months ago. I'm planning to wipe and install a new ROM and trying to decide whether to go with the latest GPE or try out an AOSP / CM based ROM. Back when I last looked there were issues with graphics acceleration, sound, etc, on these non-HTC ROMs. Has this situation improved to the point where they perform similarly to the GPE ROM or are there still lingering issues of which I should be aware?
